NGLWI: Generation Y-NOT Summer Program Alumni Student Delivers Speech During "American Graduate" Launch at WLRN Studios.

Miami, Jan. 10, 2012 - The New Generation Leadership and Workforce Institute (NGLWI) of UNIDAD of Miami Beach was proud to see one of its Alumni Students deliver a speech during the American Graduate Launch at the WLRN studios.

Jennifer Ulicny, 16, a student at Miami Beach HS, delivered a speech immediately after Alberto Carvalho (Superintendent of Miami Dade County Public Schools) on the challenges that high school students face not only in school, but also in the home.

Ms. Ulicny, an Alumni Student of the Generation Y-NOT Summer Program in 2011, competed during that program to represent NGLWI as a "Student Spokesperson" of the Institute. Thus, as one of the winners of that competition, she gracefully represented NGLWI as an integral ingredient to the American Graduate Mission.

"Ms. Ulicny served as an appropriate candidate to deliver this speech, not only because she serves as our student spokesperson, but more importantly because she lives first-hand the challenges that many of our youth face, not only when they are in school, but more importantly, when they get home", said Nelson Santiago, NGLWI Program Coordinator. "As a young woman, raising her niece, and having very adult responsibilities in a single-parent household, she faces the continuous challenge of not losing her own responsibilities as a 16 year high school student, like her education."

The Generation Y-Not Program is a combination of an after-school & summer employment program extended to all High School Juniors and Seniors, Primarily in Miami-Dade Schools, that focuses on Financial Literacy, Leadership and Social Entrepreneurship. It is funded by South Florida Workforce and the City of Miami Beach and supported by countless other organizations and corporations in South Florida.

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), in partnership with America's Promise Alliance and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, has launched American Graduate: Let's Make It Happen - an initiative to help combat the dropout crisis in this country.
